The classical guitar mold set is designed to laminate sides and linings. The kit is designed to work for the guitar demonstrated in the book “Classical Guitar Making: A Modern Approach to a Traditional Design”, and the 10-DVD box set “Classical Guitar Making with John Bogdanovich”. Laminating is a superior way to bend wood.  (See more about laminating). All Bogdanovich Guitars have laminated sides.

The molds are used to create laminated guitar sides and linings. The side mold and lining cauls are also used to install the linings. Shape and dimensions of the molds are the same as a ’37 Hauser classical guitar. The molds are made from MDF and have been cut on a CNC machine for ultimate accuracy. The side mold has sections of the inside hallowed out to reduce weight for shippng.

The face of the outer piece of the lining mold has neoprene gasket material glued to it in order to provide a cushion during gluing. This other half of the mold has been offset to compensate for the thickness of the linings and sides. The upper and lower bouts of the lining mold have also been splayed out slightly to compensate for a tendency to curl inward.

Material for making the  side mold caul consists of 3 pieces of pre-bent masonite thinned to .090″ and 16 pieces of 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 3 -3/4″ mdf. The material necessary to make the caul for installing the linings consists of 3-pieces of 1/6″ thick veneer pre-bent for ease of assembly and a hardwood maple block.

The mold kit comes with complete instructions as well as drawings to help with the assembly of the glue cauls. Shellac should be applied to the molds before use to reduce moisture exchange with the environment and to improve stability.These molds will work for the guitar design in both the book and the DVD. The kit comes with instructions. Kits are available in 650 and 640mm scale lengths.
