Making Guitar Linings Video
Guitar makers all have their own favorite ways of doing things. This is what makes guitar making interesting and appealing for many. Find the method or technique that suits you best while producing the desired results. There are may ways to make linings for a classical guitar but I prefer the method of laminating which I was very familiar with from my furniture making days. If done right this technique will yield spot on results. The trick is to use thin laminations, choose the right kind of wood, and to have a good mold. With all else being equal your results will only be as good as your mold.
The video below is an excerpt from the guitar making 10-dvd box set. This video sequence demonstrates how to make guitar linings using the two piece lining mold. The difficulty with making a two piece mold as demonstrated in the video below is that each piece has a different offset from the same original shape - the sides of the guitar. It is very difficult if not impossible to get these offsets correct by hand. The molds used here have been cut on a CNC machine where the offset can be dialed in perfectly. There molds are available on the site.
