Guitar Making Classes

Gluing brace

My guitar building career began shortly after taking my first guitar making class. Having had previous woodworking schooling and experience, all I needed was to learn the why's and wherefore's of guitar building to get started. The class consisted of myself and four other people ready and willing to learn about guitar making. During the class we watched the instructor build an entire guitar and we asked questions, took notes, photos, and made drawings to help later when we tried these things on our own. The instruction was inspiring and I know first hand that someone can learn guitar building this way.

When initially formulating the idea of having guitar making classes, I thought shorter classes would be more affordable and it would be easier for students to fit into their schedules. Feedback from students has indicated otherwise. It was suggested that two 5-day courses that cover the entire process would be the best approach. This way students could choose to see the beginning half of the process, the last half, or both. It would also be possible to attend the first week at say the fall offering and the second week in the spring. This would also eliminate the need to travel back and forth three or four times to complete the process. And with Saturday and Sunday free it would be possible to enjoy the mountains of western North Carolina and the beautiful town of Asheville Information on accommodations , restaurants, and places of interest are available on request.

Classical Guitar Making Classes Restructured

The guitar making classes have been restructured to cover the entire process of making a classical guitar. Classes include a two day classical guitar rosette class followed by two five day sessions that run from Monday to Friday on consecutive weeks which cover the entire process of building a classical guitar. In order to be able to fit all the necessary content in two weeks of classes the two day classical guitar rosette class will be offered the Friday and Saturday before the full week sessions begin.

By structuring the classes in this way it is possible to cover the whole process in one trip. Students can take all the classes in one trip while having the weekends off to explore the Asheville area, or take a week and come back in six months to take the second. Recommendations for lodging, restaurants and things to do in the area are available upon request. Classes are limited to four students.

Classes are well organized with careful preparation so that there is plenty of time to accomplish the all tasks at hand and answer any questions. Classes will be demonstration only, therefore photography will be permitted during the presentation.

Whether you are building your first guitar or already have some guitar building experience, these classes will be helpful in learning new techniques and answering any questions you may have on just about any topic related to guitar making. It is assumed that the student has a firm grasp of basic woodworking skills as these basic techniques can not be covered in the allotted time.

Students also enjoy an additional 10% discount on all products.
