When building my first guitar I found it necessary to amass a huge pile of reference material in order to be able to understand and properly visualize the whole building process before starting the project because all the information did not exist in any one place. Now all you need is contained on these 10 discs including the drawings. And be sure to download dvd booklet(pdf) (additional link in sidebar) for additional tips and advise.

Questions from readers of the book were very helpful in showing me what parts of the process gave people the most trouble and they were all properly addressed in the DVD. There are also segments with helpful tips on tools and techniques to clarify different aspects of the woodworking process. Having been a woodworker and guitarist for over 40 years and a guitar maker for almost 15, I have had the privilege of learning from some pretty impressive people on all sides of the fence. Here is a golden opportunity to really learn about guitars, the art of guitar making, and pick up some pretty good woodworking tips and techniques along the way. Read the reviews.

Special Segment

Upon completion of the guitar there is a special appearance by international performer and recording artist Stanley Yates. There is an interview with Mr. Yates in which he assesses the guitar from a players perspective highlighting the different aspects of the instrument necessary for concert performers, and footage of his recording session which was preformed with the guitar built in this DVD series.

About the Guitar and Process

The guitar being built in the video is the current design used on all Bogdanovich classical guitars. This guitar features Indian rosewood back and sides, a European spruce top, a completely new detail scheme including a new rosette design. There is even a new finishing process is applied to the instrument. This design is a bit more challenging than the design used in the book. The new bracing pattern features an open lower transverse brace on the soundboard designed to incorporate more of the top directly in sound production and enhance treble response. Also, the sides are shaped in the upper bout to accept the fingerboard without the need to relieve the underside. In the evolution of the design, small incremental changes were made for better sound and more consistent playability. This design is the culmination of those changes.

Along with the new design, new building techniques are demonstrated here. Geared toward the experienced woodworker, the building techniques presented here utilize power tools and equipment more to get the job done faster and with more accuracy. These building techniques may also be used to build the guitar from the book if you prefer, but if you would like a challenge try this guitar.

The video format is NTSC wide screen for all regions. In the future if HD technology becomes affordable to produce on this scale an HD version will be released.
